About the Bexley Women's Club

SCHOLARSHIP - CIVIC PRIDE - SOCIAL SERVICE

Bexley Women’s Club shares Bexley’s special character and its commitment to community. Founded in March 1935, BWC provides women neighbors and friends a means of devoting their time, talents and resources to the support and enhancement of our special community. With over 200 members, BWC has evolved over the years but we remain steadfast in our vision of being an engaged network actively participating in and supporting our community through scholastic and social services.

Bexley Women's Club Invests In The Future
Bexley Women’s Club was formed in March 1935 with a meeting in the music room at Bexley High School , and the following month the first president and other officers were selected. By the first of June, there were 125 members who had paid the $0.50 per year dues. A commitment to education has been a club priority from its inception. Consequently, two years after the club was established, the Scholarship Fund was initiated. The first scholarships were given to students at O.S.U. and Capital University and to the South Side Settlement House for children to be able to attend a summer camp. The club now provides not only scholarships but monies for other educational endeavors.

Bexley Women's Club Provides For The Present
The club also has a strong commitment to the community. Through their 70+ years of existence, this involvement has mirrored the social and economic times. The list: Bexley families in need during the Great Depression of the 1930’s; American Field Services during World War II; and in recent years, baskets for food pantries and items for Choices, a shelter for battered women and children; just begins to scratch the surface of the club’s extensive involvement in the greater community.

Bexley Women's Club Honors The Past
Bexley Women’s Club members are engaged in maintaining the traditions their founders set by supporting both education and the greater community and its needs. The club each year celebrates with its Iris Luncheon, highlighting the year’s achievements and looking forward to the coming year. This event was first held the year the club was founded. The club’s general meetings are a time to gather with friends and neighbors, to enjoy conversation and to gain knowledge or be entertained by the scheduled program.

Vision: To be an engaged network actively participating in and supporting our community through scholastic and social services.
